Dear Chi Chung,
Currently there is a software interface update and “SOFA-based” design method can be found in the drop down list. Please note that due to issue in software setup, Factor of Safety (FOS = 3) is not properly activated under this design method.
The program included a 1.5 material factor for most of the failure modes. In order to meet FOS=3, you may multiply the input load by 2 to archive an overall 3x FOS.
For some failure modes in the calculation report, factor of safety (3) may not be achieved, it occurs mostly in failure modes related to steel. A material factor of smaller than 1.5 is used in these calculations& there will be insufficient of safety (Load factor 2 x Material factor 1.4 = 2.8 < 3).
Remedial Action:
Please apply an additional factor on the utilization of that particular failure mode to achieve FOS =3.
The adjusted utilization for steel failure will be steel failure utilization *(1.5/1.4). Please apply such markup manually.
Regards,
Toby Yuen
